The mysterious story centers on Ichabod Crane, a greedy Yankee schoolteacher, who vies with a local youth for the affections of a rich farmer’s daughter. On his way home one day, the schoolteacher is accosted by a figure who appears to be the legendary headless horseman of Sleepy Hollow. Yet Crane is never seen again.
2. Half a Day by Naguib Mahfouz
Written by the first Arabian Nobel-Prize winning writer, the story takes place in Egypt, and begins with a father taking his reluctant son to his first day of school. After the boy experiencing both happiness and hardship there, he feels so eager to see his father taking him home after school. However, he is astonished to find out that the outside world has changed beyond belief and he has turned out to be an old man in just half a day.
